StandardAero Partnership Shines Gold in the Golden State

West Coast Aircraft Maintenance, located in Santa Ana, California is, technically, a customer of StandardAero’s Turboprop Business Unit, but functions more like a business partner. Recently, this partnership was displayed as part of the first annual, 2011 West Coast Edition King Air B200 Showcase, in Southern California and the results of the event were very promising.

The event was held on May 24 and 25 at the Atlantic Aviation hangar at Orange County’s John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, CA and showcased their new King Air aircrafts to prospective buyers – as well as to potential customers who already own King Airs and want to upgrade. The cost of upgrading an older King Air B200 is substantially less expensive than buying a new King Air B200.

Over 45 owners, pilots and representatives from 30 different companies attended the event and interacted with representatives from StandardAero, Garmin, Raisbeck Engineering and West Coast Aircraft Maintenance; some of the most respected names in engines, avionics, aerodynamic improvements and efficiency enhancements.

On day two of the event, vendors discussed their upgrade capabilities and how they contribute to the performance and value enhancements on the King Air. StandardAero’s own, Kevin Perris, PT6A Project Manager from Winnipeg presented on StandardAero’s PT6A STC Engine Upgrades. In addition, Todd Vanderhyde, PT6A Sales Director, and Randy Miller, PT6A Sales Manager manned the StandardAero booth to talk about our engine upgrade program (from the PT6A-42 to the PT6A-52) and how the company has the capability to do both upgrades and overhauls.

Gary Standel, West Coast Aviation Services President, commented on how the show served as an excellent venue for enhancing the partnership with StandardAero and “solidified the relationship” with the StandardAero team. “This affiliation will no doubt extend well into the future and will provide both companies with additional resources for shared business opportunities,” Standel said.

Vanderhyde shared Standel’s enthusiasm about the event and was excited about working with West Coast Aircraft Maintenance in the future. “The King Air B200SP is an inspiring example of the synergy that has been created from these partnerships. StandardAero is able to capitalize on our PT6A-52 upgrade program through the compatibility that it has with upgrades from Raisbeck (turbofan propellers, wing lockers, and performance systems), Garmin (G1000 avionic system), and BLR (winglets).” Vanderhyde said.

Using the combined engine upgrades from StandardAero PT6A upgrade program (converting PT6A-42 engines to the newer PT6A-52 configuration), along with other outside vendor technology upgrades (Raisbeck propellers, Garmin’s G1000 avionic system, etc), West Coast modernizes older King Air B200 series aircraft to the new King Air B200SP.

The show had a great turn out with West Coast gaining some excellent potential purchase leads, while StandardAero acquired leads of its own along with some exciting new contacts.
